My Journey as a Therapist

I launched my 1st business from home in May 2000 when I first qualified as a beautician after spending 11 years at home bringing up my 3 children. I worked around the school day offering all basic beauty treatments, Dermalogica Facials, Waxing, Manicures, Pedicures , lash and eyebrow tinting.

It was a time when the beauty industry was exploding and became available for everyone and I had access to lots of Mums at the school gates and soon became successful.

I continued to train, adding Massage, Indian Head Massage and Reflexology to my treatment menu and I really loved interacting with clients and the wide variety of my work.

I then began to become more interested in Massage and did extensive training in advanced techniques like sports, deep tissue, trigger point, Myofascial Release , hot stones, pregnancy and scar work. This culminated in me gaining a Level 6 BTEC diploma in Advanced Clinical & Sports Massage with the Jing Institute in Brighton.

I worked extremely hard to gain this qualification and it really pushed me outside of my comfort zone, writing essays and conducting my own research project on the effect of abdominal scars on low back pain, for my dissertation .

As a result, in 2015 I decided to no longer offer beauty or complementary therapies and to specialise in helping people in pain with advanced clinical massage therapy.
I loved this work as I enjoyed studying more about the body and common pathologies as well as being a hands on therapist and I was earning more money.

While training at Jing I had been introduced to CranioSacral Therapy (CST)and found that it really made sense to me as a way of working with the body so I decided to begin training with The Upledger Institute. Their training is modular and the work can be incorporated into your existing therapy so my clients enjoyed being guinea pigs as I became familiar with CST.

The more I immersed myself in the CST world the more I realised that this work was my destiny. Also I was beginning to tire physically a little from full time massage and had niggles in my wrist and thumb joints that were hanging around a bit, so a gentler treatment was more appealing.

During the first Lockdown in 2020 as I was not allowed to work, I set myself the task of becoming ‘Certified’ as a CranioSacral Therapist. During the 12 weeks I completed the 12 essay questions, written exam and then as we came out of Lockdown I took and passed the practical exam and so became an Upledger Certified CranioSacral Therapist in July 2020.

In January 2022 I relaunched my business to just offering CranioSacral Therapy ( I do still offer Pregnancy Massage), redecorated my clinic, started a new website and have spent the few last years building my business back up.

My journey as a therapist has been about finding out who I am and how best to serve and now I feel truly connected to and authentically ‘ME’ ! This allows me to connect at a deeper level with my clients, to be present with them and to support them in their healing journey.
